With a bored 5 year old and a little free time.....
In hopes of helping my 5 year old (Monkey 1) bond with her new baby sis (Monkey 2)I suggested that we make them matching Tye Dye Tshirts. So we headed to the craft store, purchsed our kit of dye, and headed home. Monkey1 liked being the decision maker on the kits colors. Upon reading the instructions I learned that I should be the one to handle the dye, and that the items dyed have to be washed seperately for the first few washes.
Monkey1 wanted to have hearts on the front and back of the shirts, in the middle. So I cut hearts out of tape and she placed them on. We then rubberbanded the shirts together, and set to dying. We were both careful to wear the gloves (hers were way to big) I was very carefull to follow the directions and "not oversaturate" the material. We let them sit the alloted time and then washed them.
Our end product was interesting, not quite what we were aiming for design wise but other than that they look great.
I would not recommend this craft for smaller childern because the dye is rather messy. Also when it says not to over saturate the material, we should have used more dye and tried harder to get it in the folds. I can definately say I would do it again it was fun.
